  • New Talk: One Health: Animals, Humans & Environment

A new talk is available on “One Health: Animals, Humans and the Environment” given by Lisa Jones-Engel who explores the fascinating commonalities between humans and macaques; and on how the intense overlaps between macaques and human populations in the urban centres result to disease emergence and dissemination (especially by the ‘performing’ macaques). She also describes the translation of research from the field in animals to humans (the OSP).

    Two statements from the documentary:

    • “MAN should know that he does not have complete dominion over plants and animals, rather he should coexist with them.”

  • OIE PHOTO COMPETITION 2015

The theme for the 2015 competition is “Animal health, beyond the cliché.”

    Rabbit holding camera

In our modern world, the collective imagery all too often associates “animal health” with veterinary clinics or animal surgery on domestic animals.

Very few photos show the day-to-day prevention, surveillance, diagnosis and control activities carried out by animal health players in the field to safeguard animal health and feed populations worldwide. The winners of the OIE PHOTO COMPETITION 2015 will therefore be the photographers who best illustrate these activities, both artistically and in terms of representing the professional practice concerned.

Photos should highlight the human/animal interactions that typify the activities of animal health professionals, especially veterinary services. Photos illustrating the crucial collaboration between animal health players in the field,(veterinarians, farmers, researchers and others), as well as the links between public health and animal health, will be given preference when selecting the winners. The jury will also take into account the photo caption. The photographs selected by the jury will be very useful for globally promoting the benefits of Veterinary Services to the society.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES: 1 May 2015, by 11:00 pm (Paris time)

A winner will be chosen from each region of the OIE global network. Each prizewinner will receive the sum of €1,000. The prize will be awarded during the opening ceremony of the 83rd OIE General Session on Sunday 24th May 2015.

The results will be announced via the web site www.oie.int on 15 May 2015.

All incomplete entries will be returned without considering the photos.
