The OH-SMART mapping tool was developed to assist agencies in coordinating effective outbreak response planning. OH-SMART gives people from different disciplines a practical way to apply business process improvement and participatory leadership methods to their multi-sectoral system. It has also been used for “After Action” outbreak response, Multi-sectoral Preparedness and Response Planning, and Developing One Health Teams. The University of Minnesota and USDA have facilitated OH-SMART workshops to support One Health systems strengthening in over 30 US states and 12 countries. https://goo.gl/5ywrx

‘Flipped’ classroom One Health MOOC
In February, 2018 the One Health Unit of the Institute of Global Health (Faculty of Medicine, University of Geneva), in collaboration with Professor Jakob Zinsstag of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, published a description of the first global ‘flipped’ classroom in One Health that was conducted in Geneva and Basel in July 2017. This innovative MOOC (massive open online course) gathered 12 Swiss and international learners to work in interdisciplinary teams on specific public/global health challenges at the human-animal-ecosystem interface. They were supported by experts from academia and international organisations (e.g. World Health Organization). A novel project-based learning and research model arising from MOOCs was successfully created, which offers opportunities for global education and research addressing real world challenges utilising a One Health approach.” https://goo.gl/yWBZqH See a short video about the MOOC. https://goo.gl/t5gsjj

Environmental Health Matters Initiative The U.S. National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) has launched a new large-scale Environmental Health Matters Initiative to work across disciplines and sectors in developing lasting solutions to improve health today and for generations to come. Though not mentioned in this announcement, it is hoped that the NASEM will include animals, both wild and domestic and their impact on the environment and environmental impacts on them, in its considerations. https://goo.gl/XkR5vC _____________________________________________________________ U.S. National Pet Health Survey – Updates The One Heath Commission (OHC) is using citizen science and crowd-sourcing tools to collect important data from the public about disease and health issues occurring in pet dogs and cats that can serve a sentinels for diseases and environmental exposures. As of December 17, 2017 a total of 1,611 surveys had been completed. | On 22 February 2018 UCL Professor and special advisor for mission-driven science and innovation to Commissioner Moedas, Marianna Mazzucato has published her report Mission-oriented Research and Innovation in the European Union. Following the publication of the report, the European Commission has launched a call for feedback on missions, which is open until 3 April.
As the survey will influence the upcoming Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP9, 2021-2027), it is crucial that the scientific community responds. We therefore would kindly ask you to respond to the Survey. The survey is structured as follows: 1. selection criteria for missions, 2. implementation of missions, 3. topics for missions. We strongly recommend that you suggest, based on your academic expertise, topics for ambitious missions relevant for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
