Network for Evaluation of One Health

Working Group 2

WG Leader: Dr Sara Savic (Serbia)

WG Vice-Leader: Prof Maria Vang Johansen (Denmark)

The application of the framework, protocol and index was coordinated by WG2.

WG2 members aimed to use or facilitate access to available primary and secondary datasets stemming from ongoing One Health projects they were involved in (e.g. data on One Health education, international surveillance networks, use of antibiotics, zoonotic disease control, etc). They applied the tools of One Health evaluation handbook developed in WG1 in their institutions and local networks and actively created opportunities for the testing of the framework, index and protocol.

A Training School on the application of the evaluation handbook was conducted from the 29th of June 2016 to the 1st of July 2016 in Novi Sad, Serbia, which was attended by 30 NEOH participants. The participants familiarised themselves with the evaluation approaches elaborated and spent time refining the evaluation designs for their case studies. Until the end of the year 2016, the case study leaders and their collaborators were working on the implementation of the evaluations with the aim to produce evaluation results and reports by the end of 2016. The next full NEOH meeting served  the purpose of presenting and discussing the case study results; it took place on the 16th – 17th  of January 2017 in Malta. After this meeting the results were shared with participants of WG3 for a meta-analysis and written up for submissions to peer-reviewed journals. During 2018, evaluated case studies were made to publications and 10 of them were published, all  in peer-reviewed journals and most of them in the NEOH Special Research Topic in Frontiers journal entitled “Concepts and experiences in framing, integration and evaluation of One Health and EcoHealth”.

The list of NEOH case studies including the description of the context, evaluation question, evaluation approach and timeplan can be found here.
